Stevenson Motorsports Set for Northeast Grand Prix on Saturday

Lakeville, Conn. (23 May 2014) – A wet day at Lime Rock Park dampened Stevenson Motorsports’ return to the historic 1.5-mile circuit and following a rained out qualifying session, the sister Stevenson Motorsports Camaro Z/28.R machines will start Round 4 of the IMSA Continental Tire SportsCar Challenge from mid-pack of the 28-car field.

When rain moved into the area just before the 15-minute qualifying session Friday afternoon, IMSA canceled qualifying and declared it a wet practice which meant that the qualifying order would be set by championship point order.

Prior to the qualifying-turned-practice session, all four Stevenson Motorsports drivers were able to get valuable time in the cars and on the track during two practice sessions in which both Stevenson machines showed strength and pace, improving with each session. Andrew Davis and Robin Liddell share the No. 6 Camaro Z/28.R while Matt Bell and Andy Lally team in the No. 9 Camaro Z/28.R.

More rain is forecasted for the Lime Rock Park area on Saturday and the team capitalized on the 15-minute wet practice session by putting down more laps for both Camaros on the Continental Tire rain tires. They also took advantage of the weekend’s separated GS and ST classes as they kept both cars consistently inside of the top-10 with less traffic hindering the GS class field.

“I think we have some really decent rain cars right now,” said Team Manager Mike Johnson. “We were improving with each session, so that is really good. Unfortunately we have had two bad races this year so we are kind of starting in the back tomorrow due to the lack of qualifying. But Lime Rock has always been pretty good to us. Our cars always seem to work really well here over both short and long runs. I think the weather is going to be a big factor tomorrow and it will be interesting to see what happens with that, but we will be fine tomorrow.”

The GS Northeast Grand Prix race, which marks Round 4 of the IMSA Continental Tire SportsCar Challenge, is set to go green on Saturday at 2:15 PM (ET). Live timing and scoring can be found at
