Braselton, Ga. (6 October 2014) – In a season that started strongly for Michael Marsal when he scored a podium at Daytona International Speedway, the seasoned driver of the No. 97 Turner Motorsport BMW M3 closed out the 2014 IMSA Continental Tire SportsCar Challenge season after cleanly completing his final stint at Road Atlanta.
In the 2.5-hour season finale event around the 2.54-mile circuit of Road Atlanta, Marsal combined with his co-driver Tom Kimber-Smith to bring home an 11th place finishing result.
After running strong in an array of practice conditions that ranged from warm and dry to cool and slick, Marsal completed his qualifying duty of earning a starting spot for the race on the seventh row of the grid.
As Marsal took the green flag on a track still wet from the morning rain, he played his first few laps conservatively, settling in to a nice rhythm. In a race that yielded four full course caution periods, Marsal ran trouble free through the opening stint.
Shortly into his stint, Marsal was on the move in the Turner BMW and had gained back two positions just over half an hour into the race. When the first full-course caution fell just past the 45-minute mark, Marsal pitted to turn the car over to Kimber-Smith after making his way up to 13th place.
For the remainder of the season finale event, Kimber-Smith fought through the heavy traffic of the combined-class 50 car field to ultimately score a finishing position just shy of the top-10.
Marsal now looks forward to off-season preparations as he will next be in action at the Roar Before the Rolex on January 9-11.
