Michael Marsal Shows Strength at Watkins Glen for Turner Motorsport

michael_marsal_racing_1Watkins Glen, NY. (28 June 2014) – Racing on one of his most familiar and favorite race tracks, Turner Motorsport pilot Michael Marsal delivered a big performance in the Continental Tire 150 as he and co-driver Tom Kimber-Smith brought home an 11th place finish on Saturday.

While finishing outside of the top-10 wasn’t what the duo had been looking for, the result only followed some bad luck with fuel strategy as the long final green flag run didn’t play in the duo’s favor at the finish.

Marsal opened the race from the sixth row, and managed to miss the melee ahead of him as several cars came together on the front stretch just moments after the green flag flew.  On the restart, Marsal was able to make a quick move up into the top-10 just a few laps into the stint. The race established an early rhythm with Marsal clicking off some quick lap times until the pace was slowed by a full course caution on Lap 16.

Marsal stayed out on course, ready for the restart from seventh in the order. A quick yellow followed a few laps later, with Marsal having moved to run fourth on the next restart. The race once again staged a long green flag run, with Marsal stopping to turn the car over to Kimber-Smith on Lap 34. The Briton raced to the finish but had to play it conservatively on fuel, crossing the line in 11th.

“That was a great run,” said Marsal. “We didn’t get the finish maybe we were capable of, but that just came down to how it played out for fuel. The car was really quick, and I had a lot of fun. We did a lot of laps and were competitive so that was really positive.  We keep making progress with the car and I’m really looking forward to Mosport.”

The Continental Tire 150 at the Glen will be televised on FOX Sports 1 on July 6th at 10:00 AM (ET).
