Austin, Texas (15 September 2014) – Following an excellent drive that saw him leading in the late stages of the race at Virginia International Raceway three weeks ago, Michael Marsal is now set to close out the 2014 IMSA Continental Tire SportsCar Challenge season with two positive outings, starting at Circuit of the Americas this weekend.
The Virginia International Raceway outing was a strong race for the whole team as Marsal capitalized on Kimber-Smith’s opening stint to maintain the lead into the final 20 laps of the race and bring home a result solidly within the top-10 at the checkered flag.
Carrying confidence from the positive performance in the previous round of competition, Marsal is ready to take on the famous 3.4-mile Circuit of the Americas.
With previous experience on the track, which is also utilized for Formula 1’s United States Grand Prix, Marsal will start the weekend with some previous knowledge of the distinct circuit, which features some 17 different corners after having run in both the Continental Tire Sports Car Challenge and GRAND-AM Rolex Series races last year, netting top-10’s in both.
“Circuit of the Americas is such an iconic track,” said Marsal. “It’s got the big run up to turn one, and then you really have to do a good job positioning the car through that back section. It was fun to mix it up like we did at VIR and hopefully we can be strong again in these last two races. I can’t believe how quickly the season flew by. VIR was a blast and the whole team did an awesome job with the car.”
Marsal will have two quick practice sessions to get the Turner Motorsport BMW machine dialed in ahead of qualifications on Thursday which takes place at 6:00 PM (ET). The 2.5-hour COTA race is set to start at 1:20 PM (ET) on Friday and will be streamed LIVE on IMSA.com.
FOX Sports 1 will broadcast the race on September 28 at 12:00 PM (ET).
