Walt’s Weekly – Rolex 24 at Daytona Results

A new series and season started and its first race finished. I hope if you were not there, you watched the race. There was great racing except for the unfortunate horrific accident of Memo Gidley Prototype hitting the rear of the stopped Ferrari of Matteo Malucelli which has been released from the hospital. Memo has had surgery on his left arm and leg with also needed surgery for his back. I hope I can talk for all of us that we hope for his complete recovery. Viewing video he never saw the Ferrari on the left side of the track as he was going to pass a slower car, going from the right rear of the car to the left side where the Ferrari was parked.

Now for the results, Corvette Prototypes took the top 3 place, with the win going to #5Action Express with Jaoa Barbosa,Sebastian Bourdais and Christian Fittipaldi. In PC the #54 Core Autosport takes 1st with drivers Colin Braun, team owner Jon Bennett and Mark Wilkins , along with their Porsche 911 RSR in GTLM with Patrick Pilet, Nick Tandy and Richard Lietz.

While there was a great last lap race in GTD where we saw the #555 Level 5 Ferrari 458 Italia fight the #45 Flying Lizards Audi R8 LMS for the win, only for IMSA take away the win from #555 Level 5 Ferrari with a penalty for avoidable contact in the infield kink, but there was no contact, after Fox showed there was none with several video shots, only to reverse their decision some 6 hours later and award the win to the #555 with Allesandro pier Guidi, Bill Sweedler, Jeff Segal, Scott Tucker, Townsend Bell.

Next race, Mobil 1 Twelve Hours of Sebring, March 15th.
