The end of the season for many series is coming fast. Today we see the IMSA Weathertech Sportscar Championship at COTA in Austin Texas along with the World Endurance Championship with the Porsche, Audi and Toyota LMP1 cars.
The silly season sees the changes for 2017 as many teams are changing cars for next year. Michael Shank racing is changing from Prototype to Acura NSX. Will have a conversation with them in two weeks at the last race of the series at Road Atlanta.
The biggest change I see for next year will be the Porsche 911 RSR for 2017. Porsche has had problems this year being competitive because many cars adapted to the new rules for 2016 with aero changes and turbos where Porsche had neither available for them as you have seen them place almost the exact place each race.
For 2017 you will see Porsche with a NEW NEW car. Can you believe Turbo, well yes many of their street cars are now turbo. But the biggest change is that the new Porsche 911 RSR will not be rear engine and a mid engine as they did in the 90’s with the Porsche GT1. I have found out that they have already been granted an exemption for moving their engine and transmission. Where do you think it went, mid engine Porsche to be competitive with mid engine Ford and Ferrari for next year.
After today’s race watch for the last race at Road Atlanta, Oct 1st.
