Walt’s Weekly 1-10-2016

This weekend was the Roar at Daytona, January 8,9,10, the test days for the 24 hours of Daytona on January 30th.  All the new teams, drivers and race cars get together for the start of the 2016 season of the WeatherTech Sportscar Championship with IMSA.

With new cars in the GT Daytona class, the new cars will meet the World Endurance Challenge class GT3 specs and eligible for the European series along with the US series.  Here you will see along with Porsche GT3 R is the new Ferrari 488 GT3, the Dodge Viper GT3-R, BMW M6 GT3, Aston Martin Vantage GT3, Audi R8 LM8 GT3 ad Lamborghini Huracan GT3.

In GT LeMans the Porsche 911 RSR will have the Ferrari 488 GTE and BMW F13 M6 GTLM, Corvette C7 and the new Ford GT.

After all the testing on the 3.56 mile road course at Daytona this weekend you find that the #2 Prototype Tequila Patron ESM team Honda HPD Ligier JS P2 with driver Luis Felipe Derant post the fastest time of 1:39:249 (129.130) lap Sunday afternoon.

Other fastest time per class were:

Prototype Challenge was the Starworks Motorsport #8, Oreca FLM09 driven by Jack Hawksworth with a 1:42:118/125.502 mph.

GT LeMans was the #100 BMW of the Team BMW RLL F13 M6 with a lap of 1:45:088/121/955 driven by Lucas Luhr.

in GT Daytona is the Porsche GT3 R of the WeatherTech/Alex Job team with a lap of 1:47:852/118.30 driven by Leh Keen.

Also practicing were the IMSA Continental Tire SportsCar Challenge ad the BMW Performance 200 racing on January 29th before the 24 hours of Daytona.

Best laps in respectively was the #33 CJ Wilson racing Porsche Cayman GT4 in the Grand Sport Class with a time of 1:57:430 and the #56 Murillo Racing Porsche Cayman in Street Tuner class with a 2:05:688.

Also this week starts the International North American Auto Show in Detroit this Monday.
