the 56th Rolex 24 hours of Daytona is History!

 

Chip Ganassi Racing wins his 200th race with the Ford GT team take 1st and 2nd place in GTLM and Corvette in 3rd.

In Prototype there was many problems with the right rears blowing out and causing damage to many cars including the 2017 winner, Wayne Taylor Racing pulling their car, after having two tires blow out.  Wayne Taylor said that he is stopping in concern of the safety of his drivers and other drivers.

Mustang Sampling/Cadillac team win after having an engine problem over 5 hours from the end of the race, and nursing the car home to the end.  They lead a record number of laps.

In GTD we see Lamborghini win with Michael Shank’s Acura come in 2nd with driver Kathereen Legge and after her incident be bumped near the pit lane exit and shooting across the grass and across the International Horseshoe, luckily not hitting any other cars and able to finish the race.

There was some rain during the race and little at the end and a some amount of yellow flags this year.

With a safe race IMSA goes on to the next race, the 12 hours of Sebring.  Many say that the Mobil 1 12 hours of Sebring is harder than the 24 hours of Le Mans, due to the inconsistency of the track, bumps and different asphalt along with concrete.  So Mobil 1 Sebring, March 14th to Saturday, March 17th.
