Kansas City, Kan. (5 June 2014) – Just two short weeks after competing on his home track of Lime Rock Park in Connecticut, Michael Marsal is back to IMSA Continental Tire SportsCar Challenge racing this weekend with the Grand Prix of Kansas. Marsal will pair with his co-driver, Tom Kimber-Smith, in the No. 97 Turner Motorsport BMW M3 for the sixth round of the IMSA Continental Tire SportsCar Challenge championship.

After a rained out qualifying session led to a points-based starting grid at his home track two weeks ago, Marsal began the Lime Rock Park race from fifth place on the grid and opened the race with a strong opening segment.  Unfortunately, a big day at the Turner Motorsport home track was not to be as contact from another car saw the No. 97 Turner Motorsport BMW sustain significant damage. Marsal was forced to pit for lengthy repairs which put him nine laps down and the team settled for a 22nd place finish.

Marsal now looks to rebound from that frustrating race outing with a solid result on the 2.37-mile, 6-turn roval of Kansas Speedway. In his debut at the track last year, Marsal drove to a top-10 finish and will use that experience and knowledge to build on that result in this weekend’s 150-minute race.

“I’m excited for Kansas,” said Marsal. “After racing there last year, I know more about what to expect now and am ready for it. It’s a wide-open kind of place and the racing was outstanding there last year. It was a crazy race and I’m looking forward to getting back. The whole Turner Motorsport team is thinking about Linda (Turner, mother of team founder Will Turner who passed away over the Memorial Day weekend) and we’d really like to honor her this weekend in Kansas. Our race didn’t let us to do that at Lime Rock so hopefully we can make up for that on Saturday.”

Two 1-hour practices are set ahead of GS qualifying at 10:40 PM (ET). The green flag is set to fly for Saturday’s race at 7:15 PM (ET). Live timing and scoring can be followed at www.imsa.com.
